Title: It worked (against all odds)
Fandom: Lost
Pairing: Juliet Burke/James "Sawyer" Ford

Summary: Juliet and James … a most unlikely couple in the beginning, but in the end they were (and had always been) a perfect match.
Notes: 50 themes/one sentence for each theme - that's the challenge
1sentence, and it wasn't an easy one … English isn't my native language (although I wish) and the story is not beta'd.
Disclaimer: I don't own these characters, nor am I making any money from them. I just borrow them from time to time to have some fun. #47 (Highway) was inspired by

"Look, I’m sorry. I should’ve listened to you when
you wanted to get on this sub three years ago."
"I’m glad you talked me out of it."
(5.15 "Follow the Leader")
#01 - Ring
"Juliet, do you want to marry me?" he asks, holding up the ring (it is the same one he’d bought in 1977), nervous but not afraid that she would say 'no', and when she smiles (tears in her eyes) he realizes that he could never be happier in his life than right now.
#02 - Hero
Every time the fist hits his face the pain Juliet feels is twice as bad as what he must be feeling, but seeing James all brave and stubborn (as usual) makes her realize, once again, how much of the hero she fell in love with, three years ago, he still is.

#05 - Run

Every time Juliet is moody, commanding him around (or yelling at him) James just grins and calls her hurricane!Juliet - and the problem is solved.
#07 - Wings
James can’t hold her anymore, everything around him is crashing down, but he doesn’t care; all he sees is Juliet (injured, bruised and bleeding), the love of his life falling deeper and deeper, and for some strange reason she still looks like an angel to him - if only she’d wings to fly …

"We should get coffee some time," Juliet says smiling, knowing that coffee (or any other drink) is only a code for something else - something more; and from the look in his eyes she can be sure that he knows it, too.

It is past midnight, when, for the first time since they became members of the Dharma Initiative, Juliet knocks on his door; and it isn’t until the next morning that she leaves his house again.
#12 - Temptation
"I can’t take it anymore," Miles says one evening during their weekly meetings, pointing at James and Juliet (both smiling innocently, somehow knowing what is coming next), "You to need to get this thing out of your system or it will kill me and kill you - all of us!" (he doesn't know that his wish has already be granted a few days earlier)

Juliet knows that LaFleur is just a cover James came up with to save their lives; but for her it is so much more … the most romantic name that brings out his real self; the one he’s kept hidden for his whole life.
#17 - Promise
He doesn’t need to ask her, he knows he can rely on her, but hearing her voice, promising him she still has his back sounds too good in his ears to not ask again and again (and there is this warm feeling rising inside of him that he no longer can - or want to - ignore ordeny).
#18 - Dream
One month after Juliet moved in with him, his dreams start to change; he stops having nightmares but instead he dreams of flowers, long walks at the beach and two blond haired, blue eyed kids (one girl looking exactly like her mother), and his nights have never before been so refreshing.

#21 - Silence
James has never been a big talker - especially, when it comes to personal topics he feels uncomfortable to share - but Juliet doesn’t mind; she loves his company, no matter if they talk or spend the evening in silence (his looks and the way he touches her, cares for her ... mean so much more than words could ever say).

It doesn’t take Juliet long to figure out that his behavior is just an act and that his true self (the one she soon falls in love with) is carefully hidden behind a mask of mean nicknames and an exaggerated tendency to play cool.
#26 - Ice
She isn’t the ice queen he thought she was, and once he realizes this there is no way not to trust her with his life (or to fall in love with her), and - as weird as it is - it all comes natural and without much thinking.
#27 - Fall
"I got you, babe," he mumbles and only a second later he has lost her hand and watches her fall down that hole, while the whole world starts crashing down on him (in more than one way).

#34 - Formal
Hearing her call him James feels strange in the beginning (he is so used to ‘Sawyer’ that he sometimes forgets that this isn't his real name), but then he notices how sexy his name sounds when she says it and he instantly starts to wish she would say him name more often.
#35 - Fever
"I had no idea that grease monkeys have hidden healing powers, blondie," James says, glassy-eyed and still shaking and sweaty, but it is a small relief to hear him trying to be funny again, and Juliet can finally breathe again (after spending three whole days watching him having feverish dreams).

James loves to hear her laugh; her laughter is so clear and honest and the best medicine for his broken soul he could wish for, so he tries to make her laugh every day.

#43 - Search
"I feel like I've been looking for you for all my life," she says one night as she snuggles against his body, her hand caressing his bare chest, and he smiles, telling her he was in his office all day - only a few steps away from where she worked.
#44 - Hope
What are the odds that they all would survive the explosion, and yet they are (and she is) still alive (injured, but breathing) when he finally finds here - and the hope that they can stay together - the one he lost before - raises again; against his better judgment.
#45 - Eclipse
James can'T let go of her, he keeps holding her, carrying her all the way up the hole, not seeing, that the sun is shining, its brightness hurting his eyes, while inside of him it's dark and empty as if Juliet has taken everything with her, when she died.
#46 - Gravity
They are traveling in time, their heads hurt, their noses bleed, and it takes them every time a bit longer to adjust to the new situation, but no matter how exhausting, how painful each travel is, the first thing they do is reach out to each other, making sure the other one is okay (even then instinctively feeing the special connection they will soon turn into something more).

He asks why she locks the door (he has never done this since he get the house), but when she just smiles and opens the first button of her shirt, all questions are erased from his mind and all he can focus on is the soft skin he desperately wants to touch.
#50 - Breathe
The last time she asked him to kiss him, he had kissed her until her last breathe; the next time, she asks him, he kisses her in the same way, and again he takes her breath away - but this time he doesn't mind leaving her breathless (and speechless).
