Oh yeah, I don't like this

Jul 08, 2009 10:11

This is the part of work that I'd forgotten. The part where there are things for me to do, all the resources that I need to do them, and yet I'd really rather go take a nap or read a book. Thus continuing to sit here and try to focus is like eating some horrid thing that's "good for you" even though it tastes like old carpet ( Read more... )

I recently read that alcohol impedes the body's ability to burn fat for up to 72 hours after you consume it... and that's not to mention the desire to eat when you aren't hungry, which usually comes with lots of drinking. And yeah, beer is the most high-calorie of alcoholic beverages. (assuming you don't add a bunch of sugary mixers to your hard-A)

So, yeah, it's likely you'd drop some weight :)

Give up beer!?!? anonymous July 9 2009, 15:27:46 UTC
Cold turkey - even for the summer - seems a little harsh. It's certainly MY favorite beverage. Maybe just limit yourself to one or two beers a week? (Allocated as you see fit.)

Due to gout issues, I gave up beer for five months -- from mid-October to mid-March. I lost some weight, but it was sheer hell because I really love beer, and having to limit my drinking to merely whiskey, vodka, Jägermeister, rum, gin, and wine for five months was brutal.

Oh and by "give up" Harold means he drank 5 beers a night instead of his usual 20.

Dan, is that you? If so, I think you are exaggerating my exaggerations.

Ok, I guess I am going to be the one to tell you this. Your plan will fail. I know it sounds good, but I think that the only thing that you will accomplish is that you'll miss beer. You will replace your delicious beer with other alcoholic beverages, and the calories you take in will remain constant. If you wish to lose weight, I suggest eating less and exercising more. The cold hard truth hurts, doesn't it?

Don't ban cold beer from your life. It's all about moderation.

Ease :)

Any interpretation of the above message that makes one think that I'm cutting out beer as a means to lose weight fast, or that the goal of such is weight loss is mistaken. The goal is SCIENCE! I don't care much if I do lose weight or not, but I'm willing to test the hypothesis. Given an adequate test run of a beer free diet and some rudimentary data collection I should be able to determine what, if any, effect my patterns of beer consumption have on my general weight. Of course I haven't done the control tests of seeing what free reign beer consumption does to my weight either, so that will have to follow the period of no beer consumption, just for scientific thoroughness. ;)
Beer abstinence will begin July 15th. I will keep you posted.

Sadly, yes. Such festivals are a good time if you've got a handful of blokes and dames to hang out with and drink beer, but I have not had anyone approach me about going to either this year. Also I went to the Organic Brew Festival at the end of June and found it to be less drinking new and interesting beer and more standing in long lines waiting for an unsatisfying sample.
Besides, next weekend I have to do some home repairs and I'm sticking to that schedule.
I am going to Amnesia tonight for cheap beer night though ;)
