Anime Iowa 08 Debriefing

Something I don't think I do often enough is to unload my mind after a convention. It's not enough to discuss it on the way back (although that is definitely critical), but I need to itemize and compartmentalize my thoughts, feelings, and reactions to the things that take place over the 3 day excursion ( Read more... )

Yeah, it's unfortunate that there's no way to charge after you finish the pictures as opposed to before, and factor in exactly how much time/effort it took. As for the color, as with the rest of it, I'm sure the more you do it, the faster it will go, but still, try and be reasonable (to yourself) with the cost.

I suppose something I could do for coloring jobs is to have them pay the "line art" cost upfront, and then lay the 'color price' down on them when the job is actually done and I've had time to reflect on how much the work was worth. But the thing about con goers is, they don't hold onto their cash for long, and by the time you see them again, they just might not even have enough to pay. So it's best to claim their cash right up front before they can fritter it away on Deathnote keychains and pocky.

Oh by the way, the Nel chibi has been sent your way. I used it as an example at my table and it helped me get 2 of those 7 commissions :)

(unrelated to your post but way to 'league-up')
have you seen "clone wars" and is it as awful as the reviews state?

I've not seen it yet exactly because of the reviews I've read online =P Sure, I want to see 'how bad it is' but should i have to pay money for that? =]

argh, all bad reviews, I think I've decided not to see it. Maybe if the netflix list is lonely someday...

I saw all the work and it looked awesome to me. As I've told you already, feel free to jack up those prices, as your work is teh g0ld.
Maybe some more small sketch projects would be good for increasing overall time? It seems like the chibis helped, and you could possibly put together a sketchbook or two~

I understand your feelings about going to a con, as the majority of the goers still seem to be floating around the high school lvl even as you get older 0_o

Glad to hear you're still making money on the art! I agree with the other folks, your work is good enough you can easily charge some more (how much are you charging for color work right now?) Have you done anymore work with markers lately? While I was at Flo I got into using Copics a bit (LOVE them, just not their price).
