Posting a few reviews of CSI:NY Season 7 episodes as I haven't posted any in a while.
7.13 - Party Down
Gave this one an A-. It's not the best this season, but it's definitely the best since a couple of weeks before Christmas. So, a definite improvement on the last three or four episodes.
Lindsay wasn't in it enough, but since she's had a lot of screen time this season that's not so bad. I really like D/L ship, but even I was pleased not to see any reference to it this episode. It became over saturated in the past few seasons, to the point that there was little focus on Lindsay as her own character. Changing that this season has been a definite good thing. It's been good to have only fleeting references to the relationship, or as with tonight, not mentioning it at all.
So whilst she wasn't in it much this episode, the fact that Lindsay's scenes were about her as a CSI is definitely appreciated. Hopefully, there'll be a lot more of her and she'll get her own story-arc further down the line.
And little screen time or not, she's still my eye-candy, she's been looking gorgeous this season.
The case itself was pretty interesting, I liked that there was a lot of character exploration for the victims, that's something that they did a lot in the early seasons, but tapered off a little in more recent years. This season, has definite return to form in that regard, and this episode is just one of many that have been a good ensemble.
One thing that I agree with what others have said is that the ending along with the whole, "Victims family interfering and Mac warning them off" element, fell kind of short, on account of it being too similar to Zoo York . Hell, even Mac's expression and walk over to vehicle were practically identical in both episodes.
So yeah, good stuff, gets an A- cool:
7.14 - "Smooth Criminal"
Gave this one an A. Another really good episode, there was a great ensemble feel to it, everyone in the main cast got some healthy screen-time, even Sheldon had a storyline for the first time in a long time. The supporting cast was really good and the characters were pretty interesting.
There was some really decent use of forensics again this episode, it's great when they really rely on the evidence to help them work things out rather than interviews etc. It is after all, a show in a whole franchise about forensic scientists so it's great that they have really been getting back to their premise, there were a few times where they were drifting away from it in recent seasons.
Really loved the action sequences, especially the shoot out in the warehouse, loved the bit where the guy produced the MP-5 and started shooting at Mac good scene there.
Lindsay got some decent screen-time in this episode, albeit in the lab. She also looked great as always.
So yeah, a good A grade for this one.
7.15 Vigilante
Giving this one an A+
A Fantastic episode that focused on my favourite character. Lindsay was great in this, I loved how had such an obvious conflict between her empathy for Kate and her belief in justice and the law. I really liked the exchange she had with Jo, where she voiced all of these thoughts and had someone to get advice on how to deal with them, her scene with Hawkes was also excellent and Anna and Hill worked really well off each other. But there was no way either Sheldon or Lindsay were going to sway the other to their viewpoint on the vigilante's actions, Sheldon's own experience as the lover of rape-victim gave him an obvious bias that nothing would ever be likely to change. That was why Lindsay needed the talk with Jo, she needed to speak with someone that would be able to see both sides of the argument and understand the conflict she herself was feeling.
I loved the scene where she took down the fleeing suspect, a nice little bit of a kick ass moment that reminded me of earlier scenes of a similar nature, like the tackle in Zoo York and the one where she took down Marcia, the woman wielding a knife at Flack, in "Dead Reckoning" (Season 6 Episode 4) So loved that.
I thought the part with the voice distorter was pretty cool, although, it was easy to see coming. The voice over of both 911 calls was very obviously electronically distorted, I don't know why they couldn't tell just from hearing it, because I could. Still though, the "reveal" scene was cool, especially the way Lindsay used it to call Mac.
I also so the whole "the lawyer did it" twist coming a mile off, so that really was no surprise.
So yeah, really liked this one because Lindsay was in main focus. It gets a definite A+
