It's been literally months since I've created a journal entry, much to the chagrin of Prentice and I'm sure many others ( Read more... )

I completely understand what you mean. I mean look at Brian, John and my situation, the only people we usually play against in either SC2 or Tekken 4 is each other and sometimes Andy. I see no problem with your idea, I think it would be quite fun.

I'm down. Fighting games seem to be my crack-cocaine (if they are good) and I'm a hopeless junkie, so I like the idea. My primary concern is when; I've already got three nights each week committed to something, which barely leaves me much time for the necessary school grind (study, papers, homework, the usual crap). Actually, it's more like five committed nights since I have night classes on Tuesday and Thursday.

mm, well syst, I own SC2, and I think it is a very polished and enjoyable fighting game, but I find certain aspects of it less than satisfactory. Namely, the bugs that can be game-breaking, such as 2g after GI, effectively neutering the advantage of GI in the first place. Of course, with the overall greater effectiveness of guard stepping, there's really no point in parrying in this game anyways. Also, the wake-up game in SC2 is severely in the favor of the standing player.I've never played a fighting game that left the knocked-down character more unsafe than SC2.

Still, the game is good despite it's flaws, although I prefer VF4 as a 3d fighter. Given the choice though, I'd rather play a 2d fighter any day! :)

Well... while it is true that 2g is the bug-du-jour of SC2 (especially after Nightmare's 3B, dear sweet lord...) I wouldn't say GI is totally useless. The ultimate killer in SC2 is predictability, so crazy ammounts of guard stepping can get you nailed by an attentive player. GI does one thing remarkably well - it breaks your opponents flow, which can put them off balance or at least stop an offensive. Chronic bulldogs, like Andy, hate being GI'ed.

Yeah, playing the wake-up game can be tricky; the instant stand I find to be the best option for most cases.

GI is very useful until you get to extremely high levels of play, where it is basically useless. A normal guard or guard step is much safer.
