I love the Woodstock icon. I remember when I was first on LJ, someone accused me of having icons that were out-of-date photos of myself. I thought it was funny at the time because they were all of them completely current. Now? Some of my icons ARE ten years old! So the prophecy has now come to pass, I suppose. ; )

I do miss the language of the icons. I used to do the same thing, trying to piece together a larger picture of strangers from those little postage stamp images.

I really like this post. I too use(d) user icons for different purposes. They all had meaning, and communicated some message I wanted to send without using words. I hope you will write more about them!
