Off the air, again

It's official. Sarah and I are completely out of step with American tastes in television. Last week we learned our favorite new show this season, Terriers, had been cancelled. Tonight, after we almost caught up on The Good Guys, we learned that show won't get a second season, either. Sigh. Why can the market support a hojillion CSI and Law & Order ( Read more... )

Have you watched the new Doctor Who series yet? They are freaking amazing.

It's true.. if you like camp and sci-fi, it's hard to go wrong with Dr. Who. It has some of the best sci-fi-angling-towards-comedy writing in the last many years.

I haven't yet cleared the mental hurdle that Doctor Who has about 500,000 episodes already out that I haven't seen. I know this mental block is irrational, so I should just give it a try. At least it's proved that it can survive for more than one season!

I have barely watched the old stuff, went straight to the new series. Really good stuff, made me fall in love with science all over again.

You were also the one to turn me on to The Unusuals, which summarily got canned. :) Maybe you're just the "Sam the Ship-Sinking Cat" of television shows!

Argh, what if it's true? Maybe I should stay away from Doctor Who, just in case. :-)

I don't watch a lot of TV, but a disturbingly-high proportion of what I've enjoyed turns out to be canceled in the first season. Recent examples: Flash Forward, Journeyman, Jericho (got a few extra episodes due to fan cajoling), Invasion, Day Break, Studio 60 (though I was about to give up on it so that might not count), and I forget, did Pushing Daisies make it partly into a second season?

I, too, am out of step with the mainstream, it appears.

Yeah, we gave up on Studio 60 before its cancellation. If you haven't seen it yet, Sorkin's earlier series Sports Night had the same behind-the-scenes-TV premise but more consistent writing. And it made it to three seasons, IIRC!

Hmm, looks like Pushing Daisies did get part of a second season, but due to a short first season, it still managed only 22 episodes total.
