yes, my partner told me he had seen something about this on the news...that English women began to do it because of the economy and shopping was getting too expensive and a luxury...i suppose it's a great idea if you can come up with anything you'd like to part with that you never wear (that's my problem) and/or if you have things that just don't fit right and may fit someone else better...

Well pack-rat-itis can be a problem. I have two closets and two overflowing dressers to attest to that fact. :) Lordie knows they don't all fit and why on earth I hold on to them in the "hopes" they will fit again someday I will never understand.
Maybe it's just because Im packing right now but I seriously have TOO MUCH STUFF and going forward I think I need to reduce this stuff by at least half. At least the concept of swishing allows someone to exchange their junk and potentially regain the same quantity of junk, just not your original junk. :)

i know all about packratitis...my mum has it real bad. she's actually a severe OCD hoarder and none of us (my family) can figure out what to do with her...but anyway, that's another story for another time, i suppose... i have a more mild case of hoarding, as you probably do too...with clothes, that is... i also have 2 closets and overflowing dressers...and way too many articles that haven't fit me for years and prob never will again *sniffle* i really should just get rid of all that ill-fitting stuff straight away. when i come across something like that, i do usually put it in the charity bin...but there's so much more that needs sorting...i will get to it...someday *sigh*

i actually got rid of a ton of stuff when i was packing...i can't believe i had even more junk than i do now...but there's always more in those boxes i mentioned in my email that can be tossed as well...

I am so very excited because today is trash day. In the last week Ive filled my two giant trash bins twice! Where does all this junk come from?

I think my worst area of hording is books. I obsess over hard covered ones, especially if they are old. I guess I secretly wish I had an in-house library.

In clothing I have a habit of never getting rid of dresses, even though I dont really have any where to wear them. Barbie syndrome perhaps?
In things that dont fit me I think the saddest area is all my old cute goth clothes. Vinyl dresses, hot pants, fish net things. If anything may inspire me to diet and exercise, those silly things might. It doesnt hurt that nearby Washington DC (well near to where Im moving) has a ton of goth clubs! Boston used to have a great one but it closed and nothing was ever the same after that. Ahh memories *sigh*

It seems like a cool idea, but I tend to wear things until I've worn them out...and then I rework them into something else. Or I buy vintage stuff no one else will wear. Or my "meh" attitude toward popular brands otherwise ensures I'd have to go buy something to take to the swap. And that seems sort of beside the point. I like the idea, though.

:) Well I think the idea will work better for the less creative out there. While I think it's brilliant that you rework clothes and buy vintage, there are many ladies out there who don't. They don't for many different reasons and Im not saying thats good or bad, but I think that showing someone an alternative to shopping can provide so many economic, environmnetal or even moral benefits.
