I've not been a homeowner a week yet I feel like I'm already learning a ridiculous amount...more than I evr wanted to know. Should I ever buy a home again I think I will demand that the home get professionaly cleaned prior to purchase ( Read more... )

One thing I learned from the condo is not to cheap out on paint supplies or paint. :P

The baking soda seems like a good temp solution for the carpets, and I trust you will wipe/scrub every surface in the house? There is growing evidence that "3rd hand smoke" may be nearly as bad for you as other exposures to smoking (that smell is a soup of residual chemicals, a lot of which are known carcinogens).

I certainly wouldn't panic about it, but I might add replacing the carpeting on the list if it isn't :)

Oh, we didn't like the RL paint sample we tried nearly as much as BM. There was this fancy brand that was about $10 more per gallon than BM that we liked best (but only used for the kitchen) but I can't remember what it was called.

Looking forward to more house posts :D
