I have to make my own canvases for my painting class. I bought all my wood, some at Lowe's and some at Home Depot. I was supposed to get 1" x 2" pine. I asked for, was shown, and paid for 1" x 2" 's, with that listed on the stickers on the wood as well as being listed on the receipt that way. But I put together 2 frames and went to put in crossbars ( Read more... )

1 x 2 wood IS 3/4" by 1.5". A 2x4 is NOT 2" x 4", it's 1.5" x 3.5".

Wikipedia goes over everything better than I can.

Wha...? But...! *flustered whimper* D:

I guess my teacher is stupid or something... we based our measurements for canvases on the 1 inch on each end... which is apparently 3/4. ARGH.

*headdesk*

*muffled* Thnk yhu.

Yeah, the real pitiful thing is that the person you called at Home Depot didn't know this. My father has been doing woodworking all my life, so I've known about this discrepancy for a long time.

Good luck! If you need help with the construction, feel free to ask me. :-)

I'm surprised that the person at Home Depot didn't know, either. I'm glad you do, though. I appreciate it. Though I feel a bit stupid at the moment. ^^;

I may need the luck, who knows! XD The frames are going well, and I'm pretty sure I'll have crossbars that work, too, as long as I measure what they need to be. Thanks! :D
