I'll be the first to admit that 90's women's fashion was kinda horrible for the most part. I mean, REALLY HIDEOUS. As in, we can hope that it will NEVER AGAIN blind us
( Read more... )
I don't think 90s will ever quite come back to blind us again - it was a bit too much mix-n-match - it didn't really make an impact in the same way as other decades have done.
Also the 80s were so much worse!
(as a new folk: Hi, I love fashion and clothes, this post made me happy)
Sometimes I wonder if the 90's weren't the 1980's and the 1890's attempting to cohabit to mostly disastrous results.
And the 80's were scary, and Even the colors were THAT. MUCH. WORSE.
That said, the Victoriana revival that influenced the late 80's, early 90's dresses
I am seriously really random. I love DYI sorts of things, and I spend too much time in the good will stores to not like fashion. That said, current fashion is not my forte, and I tend to prefer my fashion if not 20 years ago, then 100-400 years ago. I also do historical enactment things, so. yeah.
Is it sad that I totally remember all of those patterns from the old books?
I can't even really put my finger on 90s fashion. I feel like there was the 80s carryover with neon and baggy pants and big shirts, a brief, tail-end carry-over in women's wear (men's wear influenced ugly big suits) then this nebulous, undefined middle period, then... Abercrombie and Fitch and skank-wear.
Oh, McCall patterns, you will never let us escape!
Agreed. I really liked the feel of mid 90's stuff- not so hideously 80's, eclectic as hell, and not yet skankified. Dear Lord, current stuff makes me sad face all the time.
I don't do pants, so I'm a bit of a dress lover, so um yeah. /random
I think I've hit on a way to express my current feelings: Sometimes I wonder if the 90's weren't the 1980's and the 1890's attempting to cohabit to mostly disastrous results.
I KNOW. And when I was in elementary school, they were all shades and patterns. It was like the nineties exploded and the liquid effluvia clung to prepubescent legs.

ahahaha stirrup pants, those were just full of ridiculous. XD Though I actually have a pair that is a nice sober shade of gray, and one that is (wait for it) vertically black striped, but the stripe part is actually this weird velvety heavy stuff, and then regular cloth It's like fuzzy zebra. XDD I wear them as an underlayer of pants when it's cold, like now. XDDD
I'm not usually a dress person, since I never know how to move or sit in them, but I like the ones you linked to. Pretty. ^^ Yay for finding clothes that fit!
Hmm. I think I actually have one of those dresses, my auntie handed it down to me. The one where you said it could lose the collar, dress D in that link, I have the version with the scoop neck. And that loud flower pattern is the same. XD
Am I remembering right, were the giant shoulder pads in women's clothes more 80's than 90's, or did they just blend together? Me and fashion were never on speaking terms, really, but I remember the slap bracelets. And toe socks! :P
P.S. Didn't comment in the right place, but your fic is cute and ahahaah Oh Aiba. ^____^
The early nineties had the most hideous amount of shoulder pads- particularly in women's office clothes! They made one's shape very boxy, which had something to do with a trend to imitate men's suits and show the potential power of a woman in a man's field. Or something like that. ;) Now, the shoulder pads that were OVERSIZED were later 80's, and were, IMHO, a travesty!
TOE SOCKS! uncomfortable as Hell, but I always liked the way they looked. . . I think I had a stripe-y Rainbow pair at one point.
EEEE Thank you! I actually plotted out quite a bit more, and am not at all satisfied with how that bit ended. But since it was a timed challenge it got posted. Ohno ends up becoming Lancelot, and Aiba predicts that unless they all have orgies love and tolerance for each other, they will doom not only themselves but also Camelot itself. (Thus avoiding the tricky business of them all trying to kill each other

I guess I mostly remember the colors, too.
