Horses

Yesterday, whilst in town, I heard the clatter of rapid hoof-steps echoing down the street and looked up to see a beautiful white horse galloping towards us. Luckily we were out of its way and safe, but for a split second, I was back in the 1800s, when things like that must have happened much more frequently. I think that was one of the things I most loved about York -- if I ever come back to England, I can't say I'd bother going south again, I'd base myself in York instead of London. I really loved it there. I wish I'd come back up.

Yes, York is wonderful. The South generally is a bit crap in my humble opinion - so much of The South is the same, but The North has such a lot to offer in terms of culture and countryside and nice little towns, and big cities. Have you been to The Lake District? Its great there, and not that far away from York at all.

The great beauty about York though is that one day, when you do come back, it'll be mostly the same as when you left it - although you will be happier. There will still be the Minster guarding the city, and the snickleways, and the nice little pubs hidden away, admittedly, some of the shops will change, but overall it will mostly be just as you left it.
