Well, for me, it's about 30 stitches on 4mm needles with DK, but I'm wary of assuming that works for others. Just measure after an inch or so and see if it's coming up about right? We can bodge small discrepancies, after all...

I have brought some yarn and needles to work with me, just in case I have time to cast on at lunchtime. Nephew socks still not finished, but never mind!
