Does anybody know where I might find a chart to knit a Guiding trefoil, or should I go away and figure it out for myself with graph paper?

I'm sure you've thought of this but have you googled for cross stitch patterns?

Might do at a pinch, but it ends up with a distorted wide-screen effect which irritates me. Perfectionism, ah yes...

I've found an old PDF on guiders.co.uk (scary place) with some knitting charts that seem to be both old trefoils and CAnadian trefoils, but both should give you a start point - it's this thread:
