Gacked from tout le monde...

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

If you were going to steal a sheep, would it be a Derbyshire one or would you go for a more superior breed?

Interesting dilemma, my dear. As a good knitter, I should undoubtedly seek out the location of a flock of British Merino and start my rustling plans there... or I could entice one of the Whaley llamas home with me?

Before you became a SAHM, what did you do, and what led you to TAing when you went back to work?

Once upon a time, I anthropologised. I went to Nepal and lived up a mountain, collecting an awful lot of spit and blood samples, and measuring other people's children. At some point in the past, I understood why I was doing this... it was originally supposed to be a PhD, but I eventually submitted it as an MPhil after the University (Durham, you bastards) shafted me over part-time study with a baby.

I've never had a career plan. Mostly I am confused by how I find myself in any employment. I started working at the pre-school when we set ourselves up as a workers' co-operative following the long saga caused by the Church of Doom. It was supposed to be a very temporary measure, but I find education (from either side) kind of addictive... Possibly it is my need to be institutionalised, but I find a school a good place to be. I'm not much good at doing jobs if I can't feel I'm making a difference to somebody's life.

Will you tell me the story of your pre-school. I know bits but feel I should know more about this communist cooperative.

Can you see yourself completing your PhD (or would you have to restart it, I am not sure how this works)? If so, would you consider taking the SBs with you while to anthropologise?

The original project got completed, albeit as an MPhil, so there would be No Going Back. I struggle to imagine going back to Anthropology at all, really, because like any academic field, ten years out is an eternity, and I have no idea what goes on any longer. But I do get the occasional twinge of regret ( ... )

Do you have a favourite book of all time. A "would be sad to lose in a fire" book

There are heaps I would be sad to lose, but no one outstanding favourite. I think my Antonia Forests would be top of the list, followed by some of the Chalets, DFB and Lorna Hill.
