I've Been Thinking (Dangerous I Know)

Hm, I think I'm in a mood, but I thought I'd write it out anyway.  Today it struck me that I do want to be married, but I don't think I want a wedding.  Like, I'd rather just do what Carrie and Big did in the SatC movie and just get married at city hall, wearing a nice dress and Joe in a suit.  I don't know, I mean a wedding is expensive.  I know ( Read more... )

Not that this will happen to you, but I used to think the same thing before I got engaged. I kept thinking I would just elope... But now that Matt and I are engaged and planning a wedding from a considerable distance (3 hours give take) I can't imagine not having a full-scale wedding. Yesterday Emily, Tim, and Nick went dress shopping with me to give me their opinions on my top choices, and just that alone is worth the expense in my opinion. It's so much fun...Matt and I want to celebrate and if you have a nice wedding, it's a great way to say Thank You to everyone for being there, which is what Matt and I said we wanted to do from the start. Whatever you decide will be great I'm sure, but until the day comes, I seriously wouldn't think about it too much. You never know what you're going to want a few years down the road....for example, I thought I would buy a reasonably priced wedding gown...such is not the case since the dresses I'm looking at rival the price of my first vehicle. Yikes.

Haha, wow. I wish I could have been there too. I mean, doing all that stuff sounds fun, but also stressful, but I usually do want a nice wedding, nothing huge - just family and close friends. We'll see what happens in a few years when I might actually get engaged. I hope all the wedding planning is going smoothly.

I feel the same way about weddings. I've been thinking city hall for the past few years now... actually, I just think I've never been the type of girl to plan out lavish imaginary weddings in the first place.
Not being christian I would feel really weird getting married in a church, it's not what I want at all. Although obvs the hypothetical man that I marry will also have a say in this :-P

definitely rather spend the money on a kick ass reception and have fun than make everyone dress up for 20 minutes worth of a ceremony
