If women were men, then what? Would we still have families? Being a woman makes a legacy of love possible. Sounds cheesily sentimental, but it just might be worth something to give up, money, fame, and even collegial respect to raise a family of "average" people.

I know. It's for sure a trade-off... I just wish the world were a more ideal place, and I didn't have to choose between having children and making a difference in the world. I'd always dreamed of being director of a child advocacy organization, or lobbying for more programs (better transportaion, subsidized child care, job-training) for poor people...

But to do that would require so much time I could never have children and sacrifice them for a career. At the same time, I feel almost selfish for wanting children instead of making the world a better place. Everybody has kids... It would be no small loss if we didn't. (And James doesn't really have a preference either way.)

So round and round I go... I'd love to hear your opinion on this!
