There's two sides to the coin though. If the child is indeed cured and better off with modification, what are the chances of success? And with that, would there be any complications later on? In the far future, I'm sure there'll be minimal problems- what about now/the near future...
I think it's mostly our problem. Most people I know are tolerant of disabilities and such, but there's an unfortunate number of pricks. Over the years of evolution, we've adapted things to suit us- not us to adapt our environment. All the problems we have now came about with our changing our world in the wrong way. So how do we know if genetic modification is ok even if it seems alright?

It's a good thing discussion has begun now about the proper use of GM since its possibility is still far in the future.
I hope a lot of experiments and trials will be done before the technology is released onto the market...
