"Did you ever feel that you were missing someone you had never met?"
Yabu looked up from the script he was studying and looked at his best friend. It was another regular day for JUMP. Chinen and Takaki were consuming boxes of Pocky together, occasionally giggling over something. Keito looked on patiently as Daiki and Ryutaro struggled with their English homework, while both Yamada and Yuto are passed out on the couch, sleeping side by side; Yamada with his head on Yuto's shoulder and Yuto with his head on top of Yamada's. Inoo was attending a university lecture, so he was nowhere to be found. Yabu raised his eyebrows at Hikaru, who was reading a script of his own.
"Was that a line from your script or are you asking me a question?"
Hikaru laughed at his friend's reply.
"It's a little bit of both... I was reading it to myself when it caught my attention... so, are you going to answer my question?"
Yabu lay down his script and stared thoughtfully at the scenes before him... ten(or nine for now) different people, joined together by unlikely chances...
"You mean like a soulmate, or something like that?"
"Yup... ever felt like there's someone out there who's destined for you, just waiting for you to meet?"
"You're seriously overanalyzing things... have you eaten already? And as for the 'someone waiting for you to meet' part, what do you expect in this business? You just have to go outside and you'll see what you're looking for..."
"Eh~? I'm serious over here... Mou~... meanie~..." said Hikaru, crossing his arms and pouting in his cute Hachibee way. Yabu just smiled and and playfully chucked a pillow at Hikaru's direction.
"Baka~, that puppy dog face won't work for me..." he said laughingly.
"But I made you laugh, so its powers still affect you..." gloated Hikaru.
"Weirdo..." Yabu muttured to himself, smiling slightly.
"Hey! I heard that!" Hikaru protested.
Oops.
"Haha, just kidding..."
"Well, jokes aside... do you believe that there's someone out there who's exactly right for you?"
"Mochiron... I'm a fan of fate, anyway... Just look at those two sleeping beauties over there..." said Yabu softly, inclining his head towards Yuto and Yamada's direction. Unconciously, the two had simultaneously adjusted their sleeping positions, so that they were now hugging each other. Chinen, on the other hand, was now sitting on Takaki's lap, both of the reading the latest issue of JUMP's manga. Keito was now teaching Daiki and Ryutaro the mysteries of subject-verb agreement, with the two students scratching their heads repeatedly, and the frequent groans and cries of 'wakarimasen'.
"Sou dayo ne... not just the two of them... but I think Kouchan and I were fated to meet too..." said Hikaru, smiling at Yabu.
"Eh? What do you mean?" asked Yabu in surprise, unconciously figting the blush slowly creeping up his neck.
"Well, we were both a part of Ya Ya Yah... and now JUMP... i think we're destined to meet each other and become good friends, ne~?"
"Ah... so that's what you mean... sou ka..." said Yau sadly, trying to hide the disappointment in his voice. Hikaru, who was looking at Yuto as he snuggled closer to Yamada in his sleep, fortunately(or unfortunately?) didn't notice.
"Aa~, I'm jealous... ne Kouchan, when do you think will we meet our soulmates?"
"H-huh? Soulmates?"
"Un...ne, were you even listening to me?"
Yabu hesitated and took a deep breath, but before he could open his mouth to answer, Inoo entered the room with a cheerful "Tadaima!" and an armload of presents. Hikaru was one of the first who stood up to greet Inoo, and was presently arguing with Ryutaro, Chinen and Daiki over a bento box of gyoza by Inoo's mom. Takaki was just looking at all the food, open-mouthed. Keito just waited for the others to choose what they want, while Inoo was trying to make sure that everyone gets food.
Yabu stared at his best friend arguing with people half his size and sighed before standing up to greet Inoo. Upon reaching the table were the snacks were scattered, he got a big box of strawberry and chocolate Pocky for the still-sleeping Yuto and Yamada(how they could sleep through all this noise is a miracle) and an onigiri for himself, losing his apetite for some unknown reason. He returned to their table, picked up his forgotten script, and determinedly buried himself in his work.
A few moments later, he felt Hikaru returning to the chair beside him, humming happily to himself. He looked up to see the casulaties of 'the war of the snacks".
Takaki was happily feeding Chinen the gyoza that he had won, while Daiki and Keito were chewing contentedly at onigiri like him, taking a break from studying. Yuto and Yamada were finally awake, and were now sharing the Pocky that he had got for them and a packet of strawberries that someone (probably Daiki) had thoughtfully saved for them, taking turns in feeding each other. Inoo, on the other hand, had taken over Ryutaro's tutoring and was now sharing a box of Pocky and pieces of Meiji chocolate between them.
"♪Takoyaki, takoyaki, takoyaki daisuki~! ♪Takoyaki, takoyaki, takoyaki daisuki~!" sang Hikaru, munching happily on the takoyaki that he wrestled from Takaki's hands a few moments ago. Yabu giggled at Hikaru's silly song and Hikaru looked up from his food to look at his best friend, his face covered with takoyaki sauce.
"Here, i managed to get two packs... want to share?" Hikaru offered, holding a piece of takoyaki near Yabu's mouth. Yabu nodded and smiled, allowing Hikaru to feed him. When they finished eating, the both of them went back to studying their respective scripts... until Yabu spoke up.
"Ne Hikaru... you asked me when do I think will I meet my soulmate, right?"
"Un... chotto... don't tell me... you have a girlfriend?! Eh?! Why didn't you tell me?!"
"Baka~, how would I have a girlfriend?"
"Oh... you shocked me..."
The two of them looked awkwardly at each other and burst out laughing.
"Ne Yabu, can you run lines with me? These are hard..."
"Sure..."
"Arigato..." said Hikaru, handing the script to Yabu. He then started to practice saying his lines, with Yabu readung the other characters' parts. Yabu couldn't help but feel amazed at how serious Hikaru is, saying each line with true feelings even though it was only for practice.
According to the script, Hikaru was talking with his childhood friend that he has a secret crush on for a long time, and he was trying to find clues whether his best friend liked him or not.
"Ne... did you ever feel like you were missing someone you had never met?"
His friend was supposed to answer "Eh?", but Yabu said something different.
"Me? Hmm... betsuni..."
"Eh~? Chotto Kouchan, wasn't that different from the script?" said hikaru, looking confused.
Wordlessly, Yabu handed the script back to a still-clueless Hikaru, and covered his face with his own script. Hikaru stared blankly at the paper hiding Yabu's face... until Yabu said something equally confusing...
"Why don't you look and see if I'm wrong or not?"
Confusedly, Hikaru looked down at his script... and was surprised to find something written on the script, in Yabu's neat scrawl, right next to the line where he stopped. Slowly he read the words...
And then he understood.
"Ne... did you ever feel that you were missing someone you had never met?"
"Me? Hmm... betsuni...
... I already met you, right?"
Behind his script, Yabu secretly smiled to himself...
And now, it was Hikaru who was trying to hide the blush bloomimng in his cheeks...
And so ends another day in JUMP.
