While the whole thing is horrible, I'm fairly sure the miscarriage thing is just a scare tactic. It wouldn't make any sense at all to penalise women for miscarriages, especially as they are actually a lot more common than most people seem to realise.

You can get charged with manslaughter for killing someone, even if you didn't mean to kill them. Depends on the situation. Why did she miscarry? Was it because she was in a car accident? Was it because she fell down the stairs? Could get a manslaughter charge for that if you count a fetus/fertilized egg as a full person. It'd be like killing someone with your car.
