So, i'm about to start serious job hunting. I'm a graphic designer with over 10 years experience, I know the Holy Trinity (Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop) on Mac and PC platforms (mostly Mac practical experience and preference), and can usually force most other graphic programs to do my bidding, or a close proximity. My main drawback is that I ( Read more... )

If you wanted to learn web programming, Jason and I could give you plenty of great projects to practice on. Ummm... like finishing digitribe.org.

Kermit's so not inclined to do web design. It's just not his thing. If you need help with it, though, I'll give you a hand.

Great.. we have a small list of unfinished projects and a few on the wish list. Where are your skills at, frontend HTML/CSS or backend ASP/PHP? Any database experience?

We've used Monster to hire from several times, and have found it much better than the AJC for giving good results.

Have you learned all of CS2? You must have the entire suite these days.

Learn HTML and CSS. I can even loan you a couple of good books if you want them (& promise to take extra good care of them, as I keep them for reference at work). It'll only take you a week or less if you sit down and apply yourself to it, and everyone wants it. Then work on JavaScript.

I've been pretty successful getting calls from Monster, though that's taken months for that to happen. Most of them get so many responses it takes forever to get through them. But I do think with your experience it shouldn't be too hard to find a job. I've seen TONS of jobs for people with 5-10 years experience and I've had plenty of phone interviews where they've flat out told me I don't have the experience they want. Honestly, you might even be qualified for an art director position or something higher than just graphic designer. The best way I've found to find a job is to talk to all your employed friends and see who's company is hiring and who knows whom and whay they can do. But that's just my 2c from what it's been like for me looking for a job.
