I feel as though I should be following the elections more closely, but at the same time, I know so little about the candidates, that any contribution on my part would be irresponsible and ill-informed

Did someone actually call you "homeslice" or were we just eavesdropping? Nothing wrong with it. Wiretapping happens all the time and people don't realize it.
I'm inclined to agree with you. At first I thought perhaps it referred to a bread loaf recipe passed down by word of mouth, but I don't think that's quite right...
Umm, lessee. A chica would be a little bird, right? And a buzz hype is... when a bunch of bees get excited! And a homeslice is... is... it's kinda like a waffle.
[there's some quiet laughter] Maybe I can help you out.
"Chica" is Spanish. It means "girl." Usually people use it as a sort of affectionate term for a female. Like calling someone "hon" or "sweetie." Sometimes it's used to refer to a particularly hot girl.
"Buzz hype" is...well, I've never heard the two words side by side. Seems kinda redundant. They both mean the same thing, really. A lot of excitement and rumors about something.
"Homeslice" is just...[more snickering] That's a really outdated term. It's like calling someone "friend." It's another term you'd call someone you feel comfortable with, someone you're close to.
[Not getting flustered, not getting flustered... all right, perhaps just a little. However, Tear asked for assistance, so there's really little point in her being embarrassed.]
I see. I'm very grateful to you for clearing this up.
However, a "hot girl"? That would mean...
[Well, the opposite of cold, she supposes. She's been called "cold" certainly.]

While some of them were easy enough to decipher, others are much less obvious...
Is that word an insult of some kind?

I'd also rather not physically assault another person without receiving an explanation first.

Like a pet name. Yes, perhaps you're right.
If you follow that course of logic, it does make sense.

[Tear doesn't sound entirely convinced. Language can be a tricky matter and these words are completely new to her. Guessing seems dangerous.]
[More seriously.]
You're certain?

... Nah, I'm just guessin'.

[Feels somewhat better.]
In any case, I appreciate the effort.
