Hahaha I think I would have tried to give partial credit for just about all of those. I mean, they're answering the question, just not in the way I'd expected! It shows creative thinking and problem solving techniques, and that sort of thing needs to be rewarded!
Oh who the hell am I kidding. I actually DID give partial credit to some kid when I was a lab assistant for a science class in high school. I mean, it's not every day that you get someone listing Doc Brown's invention of the time machine as a major scientific breakthrough of the 20th century.
I would have given the kid credit for finding "x"... the question SHOULD have read "find the value of x"... hehe.. smart kid. also, the explanation as to why the guy might have been fired... awesome.
