She stood on the tarmac, the smell of oil and jet fuel filled their nostrils. She stared at him, her heart still filled with wonder and amazement that he was here... breathing...alive. How many others had told her that no one else had escaped? That none of the rest of the Choir had survived? Now, not only were they proven wrong, but it was Him.
How long had it been? 17 years? 15 of them spent searching for some sign that He was alive, that He had escaped, for someone who could have told her that He was still in Arcadia? Anything. But there had been nothing, for almost 2 decades. Then a little Fox had told her to let it go and move on with her life. They had been wise words, certainly, but now.. it retro-spect.. had they been? If she had waited.. just a little longer, how much anger and pain would she have been spared?
"But it would have been one more year without love, and I never would have asked that of you." he had whispered in her ear the night before. She closed her eyes. So reluctant to leave after having just found him again. But there were people who needed her as well and she could not abandon them for her own pleasures and satisfactions. He would be here when she returned.
She reached out a gentle hand and caressed the face that she had missed for so long and whispered quiet notes on the air, for his ears and his alone:
