I actually love holidays. Of course, I celebrate them my way. Special clothes perhaps, and a nice meal, eaten indoors.

My parents meant well, but they love travel and cookouts and fireworks. And they wanted to enjoy these things together as a family. Which included me. Whether or not I was enjoying myself. I would have been at least somewhat more open to such activities if they were presented as something I had to do rather than something I was supposed to enjoy.

I used to try to spend family vacations sitting in the car reading books. Often books I had read before. Of course as a kid, that wasn't an option. I still joke that my favorite family vacation was the first one I didn't go on. I was in college, although on Spring Break and theoretically could have joined them. Instead, I stayed at my familiar school and they sent me postcards. What a great trip!

What a great trip!

That does sound great!
