This is good writing. By that other blogger and also by you. As it happens, I'm going to tell an anecdote on friendly_crips about naming disability, but it would be great too if you posted over there what you've posted here.
I've had multiple occasions with a bus driver taking Issue with the fact that I needed the bus to kneel or I couldn't make the step up. Yeah, I'm young looking. I've had them object when I had the cane, and when I had the dog. I always wonder, why make a fuss when I ask you to kneel the bus? It doesn't cost you anything, and it hardly takes a moment - and arguing with me about it? That only makes it take longer. I have had a bus driver leave me standing at the stop because he wouldn't kneel the bus and I was pretty sure I'd fall if I attempted the step. I asked him to kneel the bus, he said 'come on, get on', I repeated asking him to kneel the bus, he let out this HUGE sigh, like he was so put-upon, stared at me for a couple seconds, shook his head, closed the door, and drove off.
I will never understand why people make a fuss over accommodations like requesting they kneel the bus - things that cost them nothing, but make access possible for me. If it costs you nothing, why are you so adamant about not giving it to me?
