Discussion of Casket of Souls

Hello everyone. Well, seeing as no one is starting any discussion and westmoor' s post seemed perhaps a bit too specific or I don’t know, I thought I’d make a start then. After all, by now most of us have read the book, right ( Read more... )

I haven't finished the book yet but I have a habit of skimming ahead (I can't help it!) so I pretty much know what goes down ( ... )

Oh gosh, I tend to do this, too. It's such a bad habit, but I can't help it either ( ... )

I actually read that part the night before I read your comment, so that definitely made me chuckle! I love that scene. It is probably one of my favorites, along with Seregil having to strip in the gambling house. This book has a lot of unexpectedly funny moments.

Oh gosh, yes, that scene in the gambling house was great :D Some comic relief is always a nice thing, don't you think? ;)

Oooh, who's talking about it on tumblr? I need Nightrunner friends there! (my url, by the by, is shes-so-swellingent, haven't done much Nightrunner posting there, but I totally will if other people are into it!)

I have to agree about Atre. While I've always loved Flewelling's work her villains can be a bit...one note? Sad to say, I can't even remember the names of the last couple, that alchemist and the old faie guy who sold them into slavery or whatever. But Atre was fun, he had a really compelling arc, and with all his charisma he was sort of like the anti-Seregil (perhaps another reason why Seregil's instincts failed him).

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Lots of humor, lots of edge of my seat moments, Thero & Klia (FINALLY my god. Now go make wizard babies). It does make me a little sad, though, that when I started reading the books I was the same age as Alec, and now he's only still 21 and I'm...not. :C Ah, well.

Meh.... tumblr says: 'URL not found' :((((( Buuuuh. Hmm, my tumblr url is the same as my name here (incidentally I posted two lovely pieces of fanart I found yesterday ^^) and there's a special Nightrunner tumblr led by two very nice girls, here it is: http://fuckyeahnightrunner.tumblr.com/ xD

Ahaha, yes that's true, Atre really is an anti version of Seregil. That's really a good point ^^
The names of the villains before... um... you got me, I've actually just reread The White Road but... hold on, that old 'faie was called Ulan, right?! But I don't remember the Alchemist's name either.... strange o.0 Mardus wasn't bad though.

Yes, isn't it great Thero and Klia are finally together? It took them long enough xP

Damn, yes, I know how you feel - same here ;_; Oh, but you know, who cares about age, it's just a stupid number on a piece of paper really, isn't it? From how old I feel like, I'll never be a day older than 16 xD

I just finished the book a couple nights ago and it seriously got me thinking. Lynn worked in a LOT of pieces from all the other books, and it's very obvious she building up to something epic. Especially with Thero and Klia marrying - which I almost jumped out of my seat and did a stupid little dance at. Thero is by far my absolute FAVORITE book character ever! I can't explain it. But he's going to play an absolutely HUGE role in the next books and that causes me great excitement.

I have no idea if she is building up to something epic, to be honest I never had that feeling reading the book, but I do agree with you on Thero being part of something huge. Ever since he went to the oracle and got his very special dragon bite xD
I have the feeling that he's going to be the first wizard who will be able to beget children and that those children will be quite powerful - magically. ^^

Thank you!! I was worried it was just my own imagination because my boyfriend just finished reading it and he didn't catch it. But definitly - with the Rhui'auros telling him the 3rd Oreska will be made whole, well whats the one thing they're truley lacking ( ... )

Exactly! Well, Thero is definitely not thinking about it, when he told Klia that he cannot father a child it didn't sound to me that he ever considered this the meaning of the prophesy and the dragon bite (not that we know for sure, but let's just stick stubbornly to our assumption xD).

And it's true, they are both in very powerful positions, but even if they get a child, to transform the whole Oreska would take generations, so that would be rather an issue of the not all too near future, providing that not only Thero can have children but perhaps his apprentice and others too....

I don't think the Retha'noi, Sebrahn or the Hazaldrielfaie are completely out of the picture either, I just have a problem with the next book being supposed to be the last. Hmm... or perhaps that one will be 800 pages instead of the usual approx. 400? Would be nice... ;)

Fangirling, discussion... that's both just fine xD

They all are just amazing character, every single one in their own way. I can't think of any which I don't like at all - well, when it comes to the villains, it's not 'like' as such, you know... not like one likes Loki, e.g., but they simply make good villains... now does any part of my blabbering make any sense to you? o____0

In a nutshell: ♥♥♥ ;D

Absolutely, makes perfect sense and I agree with you :D Sometimes villains are awefully 2-dimensional and evil for no apparent reason. But not so here and even though we don't have their whole backgroundstory, they seem more 'real'.

Don't worry, I tend to get incoherent all the times, especially about things I like - there seems to be some faulty connection between my brain and my hands / mouth o.0

(Ahaha, well, actually I just took Loki as an example because there are so many who really like him. I do like Loki but I don't fangirl over him, I just like him, the same as I like Thor or Tony Stark - I think I don't have any favourite one there - so you're not the only one who doen't have ~all the feelings~ for him xD)
