No More Secrets

Kevin came over tonight and we told my parents about the apartment. They were very excited, and confused about why I took so long to tell them. Then they started trying to pawn all their junk off on us! "Want the [broken] kitchen set? Want the end tables?" They came off, to both me and Kevin, as acting extremely fake, but regardless as to whether ( Read more... )

omg yay! i'm glad that it went over well (whether or not they meant it.) the point is that they are approving for your sake, which shows some maturity on their level. i'm so happy for you and your driving too! and don't worry, backing up takes some practice, but once you have it you're golden. if it helps, i had to parallel park on my drivers test (stupid norwich) and failed miserably. so rest assured, you're going to do much better!

Backing up was THE hardest thing for me too. You should go to enfield, they let me do it 3 times, it was great.
Remember, when you do go to take the actual driving test, back into a space before hand so you don't have to back out.
(Listen to me! As if I've had my license for so long, lmao)

And gratz on the moving out! Tell me how it goes, I plan on doing that one day!

Oh, also-
1- There are tricks to backing up, once you master that you're good to go! Just ask some people what they do when they back into a parking space.

2- Enfield's parking spaces for the driving test are HUGE, so as long as you park in STRAIGHT (which, in itself was a struggle for me because I always wanted to turn the wheel more) you should be fine.

Backing into parking spaces, I have discovered, is mostly for burly men driving pick-up trucks; they like to prove they can do it. For the rest of us, it is a totally unnecessary skill. ;) Backing up in general is far easier and less stressful.

Congrats on all of the awesome stuff going on for you right now!

i'm so happy to hear that all went well with the revelation to the 'rents. fake enthusiasm or not, at least they didn't freak out.

and when you get your license, you'll have to practice driving by taking a nice, long drive to a little town in MA. there's no required backing up in the entire trip!! ;)

I'm so glad to hear that went well! And hey, if the need to be a little insincere right now, at least they're letting you go...

As a side note, when I was learning to drive, I was having trouble with the backing up thing too... so my dad took me to a big deserted parking lot where I did nothing but drive around backwards for about 45 minutes, all over the place. Towards the end he took old boxes out of a dumpster and made an obstacle course for me to drive around. This helped immensely, and was also silly amounts of fun.
