I actually wanted the smooth braid, but I couldn't find it locally and the online merchants wanted more for each ring than what we paid for the set locally.
We just celebrated our eighth anniversary yesterday!
I haven't seen you post in a while, I hope things are going well with you.
The gold band is my second wedding ring, if you count the plain white gold band that came with the engagement ring (which is white gold and diamond with ruby accents)--a few years ago I decided I wanted one that didn't stick up so I could wear my support gloves at work. Unfortunately now I am too fat for it to fit well so I haven't been wearing any rings at all. Spouse's wedding band, which he got at least four years after we actually got married, is the braided band in white gold.
I had some serious Life Issues back in September and I was kind of out of the electronic loop for a few months because I was off work on medical leave. Mostly I check social media from work, you see... I should post more, now that I have my head more or less on straight...
I love opals of any shade, really. I thought about trying to find a black opal for my engagement ring, but I had a feeling the Maternal Unit would whine about how "funereal/inappropriate" it was. I don't mind the white ones, but they're so ubiquitous here, I prefer the more unique colors. It also depends on how much "fire" the white ones have, some have a lot more than others.
i do not understand the way your Non-Maternal Unit thinks, nor do i want to. ;)
i had fire opal earrings long ago that my dad bought in australia, till some Miss Satan dumped my jewelry box in the trash can. i forgive her because she was 3 years old at the time, but STILL. :)
mama likes the milk opals with fire in them, she did have a beautiful line bracelet that was all opals, but that was before the house was robbed the first time.
I don't remember the occasion, but a few years ago my MIL gave me a pair of earrings she'd had for years. Dragonflies, with the top wings made of white opals and the bottom wings made of blue opals, the dragonfly body in gold.
When we were looking for my engagement ring and our wedding bands, we went to Jared. I was still in my grocery store uniform. The lady literally looked down her nose at us, and gasped in horror when I told her I didn't like diamonds. "What do you *mean*, you don't like diamonds?" We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
