Perfection Shattered Against a Wooden Board
“Akira! Lost!?”

“But how could that be!”

“It’s not true.”

“There’s no way an amateur could beat him! He’s as good a pro!”

“That other kid had a handicap didn’t he?!”

“The other kid was black, but besides that there was no handicap…”

“NO WAY!”

“Akira couldn’t have lost! He’s too good!”

“He lost by two points.”

“But if you include the komi then Akira actually won. But does that mean that kid’s on almost equal-standing with Akira?!”

“That can’t be. He’s too good.”

Chair scraped back against the floor and people stood up to talk to each other about the fast spreading news. Black and white stone chips fell to the floor, some cracking against the wooden flooring other falling on the carpet unharmed.

“I don’t believe it. Akira would never have lost. He was ready to go pro!”

“Akira…lost… That’s just impossible.”

The only thing Akira heard was that he had lost by two points.

Two points.

But with komi…that didn’t matter. He’d lost; and it just wasn’t by two points it was because the kid was on a level far more superior than his own. And yet the kid had held his stones like an amateur, but was testing him the whole time. He’d never meet anyone like him Never seen anyone play like him.

“Wait a minute! Is this true Akira?! Did you really lose? That boy said he never played a game before.”

A gasp run through the onlookers, one by one; and slowly Akira stood and looked down at the white and black covered board, replaying the whole game over again in his head.

“He’s never played before?” No one heard the softly asked question as they shook there heads and looked at Akira.

For them, this could have been nothing more than wishful thinking. Akira never lost. He was too good. He played as good as a pro.

Until now.

Sitting back down Akira looked over the board the game replaying in his mind.

-End-

Komi: points awarded to the white at the end of the game to compensate for black’s first move.

My notes: Not one of my best, but at least I finally managed to right something; but if you ask me it sounds just like the magna. So hopefully I'll get off my butt and revise this a little bit and post it again with the edits.

In the mean time... leave comments!
