Oz felt a little bad about leaving the party suddenly, but...he'd started feeling like the walls were closing in on him. His skin was itching, and he needed fresh air

"That girl, River? I felt...like she...like she could read my mind." He'd use that as his cop out. Right. Well, it wasn't a lie. That did make him jittery. "I don't want...no one needs to know..."
His discomfort back in the room had everything to do with that, yes it did. And nothing to do with Duce and how he felt about her or how being near her made him feel. No no no no no. That wasn't it at all.
Duce nods, still not looking happy. Speaking quietly after a moment, "Yeah.. she can. Maia told me she can't help it, but she's getting a lot better at picking up on cues that she's not.. hearing with outside ears. Don't think you need to worry, though. She's not going to tell anyone. We think she was.. just trying to be friendly."
Oz nods and tugs a hand out of his pocket to scrub it across his face. He'd felt that too, that she was trying to be frienly, but he couldn't help that it made him uncomfortable too. The way so many were at the redy to persecute Angelus, and other students for being different, and all the gossip about the werewolves...it was just better if no one who didn't already know never found out.
He didn't say anything for a long moment as they walked in the darkness. "I was a jerk." he says finally, sighing. His hand is hanging limply at his side.
Duce's voice comes lazily, "Hmm? From? Here. Well, not here, but .. this is my world. My parents live in Chicago. I've kind of been .." Realizing that saying "I've been around" is not a good choice, she restates, "I've been to a bunch of schools in the country."
She watches his finger making small circles, smiling at it. It's obvious he's either a guitar player or a typist- the calluses are a dead giveaway. "I was ..kinda a problem kid." Deciding that's not a safe subject, she changes it, "You? You said you were from.. wherever Vampire Boy's from. Where is that?"
"California. Sunnydale. It's...a hellmouth. Lots of demons there." Oz shrugs. "Otherwise,it's a nice place. Mostly sunny. I was...I wasn't a problem kid, just unmotivated. My dad sent me here because I keep failing my classes."
Tilting her head back gives her a great view of the underside of his chin, "Didn't you say you failed out to stay .." oh yeah. Swift. Bring up his ex. Socially adept, she ain't. "Uh. Hellmouth? I remember California being kinda creepy, but .. demons, huh? Like the kind raised by voodoo?"
"All kinds. A lot of old ones, too. Really old. There was an Inca mummy once, she kissed guys for vitality, she could pass for just another girl, no one could tell. Until her hands turned scaley."
He chose to focus on that part of the conversation, and gloss over the unintential circle back to Willow. "And of course, vampires and werewolves. I really only knew one other wolf, though. And my little cousin Jordy."
