so here are my first experiences in leon:
Ok so time for another post! So I left of having just found that apartment and having just arrived in León. So the apartment we had found fell through, we went back the next day and it just wasn’t right. We me the guys we would be living with and they were so old! And smelly, Jen totally freaked and we had to call the lady to tell her we did no longer want to live there. The only problem was the day before we made a down payment of 100 Euros so I wanted my money back! So we had to argue with the woman in the streets for about an hour before she gave us only half of our money back. I guess there wasn’t much else for us to do and I want that to be my only scam this school year. So after that we had to look for a place again when Jen’s mentor said that there were two spots open in her apartment. One is huge it’s like double the size of the other one, but the big one will be occupied till the 2 and the small one was open now. I took the smaller one and it doesn’t bother me at all! I really love it and rent is so much cheaper here it really worked out.
But we had our first few nights in the city and it has be so much fun, and so different from the states. Usually we don’t wake up till super late like noon, we do whatever paperwork we need to get ready for school then take a few hour siesta, where we do absolutely nothing. Around 9pm we start to get ready to go out and we actually leave the house around 10-11. We go bar hopping for cheap drinks and free tapas (like an appetizer) and around 1 or so we head to the disco-tecas or clubs. The drinks there are super expensive. We probably party till about 330-5 am then head home for the night. Most the places we have been going are full of international students. I’m often pegged for an American, I’m sure because I’m blonde, blue-eyed, and dress like an American. I usually get the really old guys to hit on me a lot lol, or I spend like an hour talking to some guy about politics and religion, which I love! So going out is a lot of fun but I won’t do it as much once school starts on the second.
That’s a whole other story. Initially we went to the international meeting and they gave us information about this class we had to take, but it was supposed to be our only class. Can you imagine if I was over here for a year and only got like 6 credits and had class twice a week for two hours? I mean I didn’t like that at all. I really like to go to class and learn; I just hate doing the homework that comes with it. So today we figured out that we have a whole program where we go to classes Monday-Friday 9am-1:30pm, so no more staying out till 5am every night. Also I’m not doing so amazing with the language yet. I can understand sometimes when people talk to me but it’s rare that’s it’s an expression that comes easy to me like, “Como te llamas?” usually they ask me some weird way where I stand there confused for a few minutes. I am still working on it, lately I spend my free time writing out vocab sheets to memorize.
Meeting people isn’t hard at all but trying to be really friends not just one night drinking buddies is a bit harder. I feel maybe it’s because of my personality, I am a bit introverted, and that I don’t know Spanish yet it’s harder for me. The girl I came with is like a sophomore and always chatting up random people she’s really outgoing. I guess I should get used to going out on my own, and I will soon lol.
