Well I was given another reality slap by Col and I am very seriously contemplating going back to school.  The question I have is what do I go back for??    If any of you would care to help by making suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

as i said before and i will say agian, you know what you would like to do and the only thing really keeping you from doing it is that your skills are out of date. you just need to do what you feel is right. so quit sitting on your butt feeling sorry for your self and take ahold of your life and do something with it instead of just floating where life takes you....

now if i couldl only follow my own advice

What are you interested in? What have you done already that you liked? Disliked? Do you have any training? What level of education have you finished?

If you can (especially for free), go see a career counselor. They often have useless suggestions, but they also have a process that you can use as a structure to start to figure it out. They also have information about careers and training--especially the ones you want to avoid because no one's hiring. Try the local community college, they may have a state employment and training office with these services.

Going back to school is one thing, and it's a great thing, but it's also just a first step. Unless you want to be a professional academic (not that there's anything wrong with that :D ) the important thing to figure out is what you are studying for.

Sorry this got long--you pushed the Mamma Zanie button :P!

I had planned to go talk to the academic advisors at ISU and get there thoughts before I did much of anything.

I don't think I qualify to use the career placement at ISU since I got my BA from a private Lutheran college in Iowa. If you have other thoughts you can contact me through my email on the profile page as well.

Does your private college have a career advisor? Most alumni services have such people nowadays. You could utilize theirs.
I really think college is a great idea. I said so after you left SF. Despite being a dime-a-dozen nowadays, an MBA is good thing to have. Most firms these days want MBAs or specialty MAs like Project Management, even though they'll advertise "minimum requirement: BA". A BA counts for little now, even though it costs and arm and a leg. U of I and ISU both have excellent reputations. U of I is more 'research' oriented and ISU is more practical application. Check out their webpages, email some profs and get a feel for the programs offered.
