Superman cares for himself

Hmm so Christopher Reeve died. Sad maybe. But actually, when it comes down to it, who gave a fuck about him a few days ago? And in all seriousness, before he was injured in the horse accident, did he really give a fuck about people with paralysis? Ofcourse he started fighting for the cause when he became injured...it was all in self service, c'mon

isnt that the way it always is with problems? no one givs a crap til someone dies or some major accident happens becuase of it, besides media's got a big role in it too.

you have a good point, but so did rujimmyray...

think of why anyone participates in any particular cause. you ask them why they run in the breast cancer awareness races.... they tell you their mom died of cancer, or their friend has cancer... why does someone volunteer at a hospital? because they know someone who was in that hospital at some point. why do hardcore war supporters change their position? when someone close to them goes to war and dies.

humans are all selfish and they don't care about things until it somehow effects them or someone they know. and i am sure christopher reeve didn't hate paralyzed people or anything, he just couldn't relate to that situation until it happened to him. i think he did a lot for the cause, even though he knew in reality nothing was going to happen before he died. just how the world works unfortunately.

that's true. it's only natural and expected to care about something when it happens to you. if i was injured, and had the means, like Christopher Reeve, i would also fight for a cure or whatever, obviously not having done so before i was injured...my opposition to christopher reeve though is that he was made into a hero for doing exactly that: doing what any natural, regular person would do within their means. what he did was nothing unexpected, nothing selfless and therefore not particularly honorable. sure he advanced the cause for others, but another aspect is that though advancements may have been made, what poor person is going to be able to pay for treatment that he probably recieved? well anyway i'm going on a rant but still...
