Sorry for the late! n1njagirlfriend September 6 2009, 00:50:37 UTC
It was a hell of a crash, is what it was. Kasumi had lost herself in the match, focusing only on her opponent. It hadn't even occurred to her that she had literally ripped her top off in front of so many people until after Chrodechild had ended the match. She simply thanked her lucky stars that no one she knew had scene. Or at least she hoped. Still, the embarassment hadn't quite worn away yet.

"I live in a room above Lord Lepant's trade shop. The stairs leading up to it are behind it," she said, though she rarely found herself actually in the room but to sleep. She spent most of her time simply surveying the castle.

"Oh, good. I'm glad Miss Eileen had been able to put it to some use. I had encountered her the day she found it." Chrodechild chose not to mention she'd found Eileen falling arse over teakettle trying to get up the ladder that had led to it, but she did add, "I'm glad they cleared a better path upstairs. They're lovely people, Miss Eileen and Mister Lepant."

"She has been more than a gracious host to me. At times I feel like I do not do enough to repay their kindness," Kasumi remarked, warming slightly with the conversation. "They are in the awkward position of not being acquainted with myself while the opposite is true, it would seem."

Chrodechild nodded, not exactly sure what Kasumi was getting at, but trying to intuit the situation as best she could. "Perhaps you could invite them upstairs for tea? Repaying hospitality with hospitality seems appropriate, and put you on a little more equal footing, in terms of getting acquainted."

"I did not know they had that here. May as well try something new." She waved over a waiter, waited for Kasumi to pick out the cake, and ordered jasmine tea and cucumber sandwiches.

After the waiter left, she sat back, trying not to fiddle with the napkin in place of the menu. "My mind keeps going back to this morning. I've never seen anyone fight like you. Just the fact that you move silently while bearing all those hidden weapons is amazing. Is this what is taught in Rokkaku?"

Kasumi couldn't help but let her pride beam through in her smile. A first-time reaction to her ninja ways was always an excellent boost to her confidence, after all. She set the desert menu down, letting out a slight giggle.

"You would be correct. Those who are to become ninja in Rokkaku are trained from a very young age to have these skills, usually starting when we are ten years old. We go to a place called the Sparrow Manner, which is much like a youth military academy."

Chrodechild nodded. "My father had me learn swordsmanship around that age, although I was not sent away anywhere. It must have been difficult to leave home."

The waiter brought the tea, pouring them each their first cup. Chrodechild brought hers to her face, not yet sipping, taking in the tea's slightly flowery aroma.

Kasumi too in a moment to appreciate the essence of the tea before sipping as well. As usual, it was delicious. She wondered if Watari had anything to do with that... She let out a content little sound.

"It wasn't so bad, really. My parents visited fairly regularly, after all. Going to train at the Sparrow Manor is simply a long embraced tradition with my people. In fact, it was one of the only buildings that went undamaged after the village was sacked during the Gate Rune War."

She nodded. "I'm sorry, much of this is on my mind. I'm sure I'm not very coherent, but it helps to be able to say some of this ( ... )

"That's..."

Kasumi's jaw was agape and her eyes reflected the sort of horror one would naturally expect from revelations like that. The Gate Runes... were those what protected their own world from all that nonsense? Already her head was drowning with thoughts, but for the most part she was simply shocked and frightened by the prospect...

Chrodechild looked down at her tea. "I'm sorry, it's not really casual teatime talk, is it? It's hard for me to go from one mode to the other. Some of these things are fresh on my mind. But you have clearly seen and experienced war.... I hope you understand."

"I... I do. And my heart goes out to you and your struggle, Lady Chrodechild...," she responded with a sigh. She stared at her food for a moment, contemplating...

"In the Toran Liberation War, Rokkaku was sacked and completely burned to the ground. Only the well hidden Sparrow Manor survived the attack. Even three years later, we've still been rebuilding."

"I'm very sorry to hear that. My home was not entirely razed, but I was kept from it from several years during its occupation. War orphans us all, some more than others. Let us use our skills to do our best to prevent such casualties here." She straightened and nodded firmly, as if agreeing with herself.

"If I may ask... the Toran Liberation War had a... desirable outcome? What was liberated?"
