I was going to write (well, I was going to pretend that I was going to write) a review of The Avengers but instead I'll just recap the enthusiastic rambling I babbled at
isiscaughey this morning after I woke up.
Sort, non-spoilery version: I loved the hell out of it.
Longer, rambly version:
SPOILERS
I loved, loved, loved everything between Bruce and Tony. From Tony's fascinated and unconcerned queries about the Hulk to his confident surety that Bruce was coming back, everything about them was adorable. I loved Tony in general. I love that they played up the Steve/Tony bickering without making Tony the weak one. I loved his interactions with Pepper and in my head I can't see the two of them together without thinking they're cheating on Happy. (You know at the very end, when they were redesigning Stark Tower, he told her the twelve percent that got destroyed was her twelve percent.)
And Steve! And Tony! I loved their exchange in the lab, and that Tony was so cool and sure through the whole thing, that he was getting the job done even as he doubted Fury, that he was able to sway Captain America (even if Cap wasn't willing to admit it)! The scene with them working on the engine and the sad scene in the briefing room where Fury told them about Coulson dying (COULSON DIED AND IT WAS SO SAD BUT SO KICKASS) and you realize it's just the two of them left. And the fight!
Steve: "Put on the suit and we'll see how good you are"
Tony: "No, you dumbass. If I put on the suit, you'll hit me. Did you miss the part where I'm a genius? Because I told you that like five seconds ago. Maybe all those years in the ice froze some brain cells you couldn't afford to lose."
I've never given even half a shit about Hulk, ever, not even in MA where he's adorable and kind of generic. But Mark Ruffallo) surprised the HELL out of me and I now love Bruce forever and ever and even like the Hulk in this universe. Him and Tony being all Science Bros! The startled, but slightly delighted look on his face when he realizes Tony is actually poking him with pointy things. His insistence that he wasn't getting caught in the middle when Steve and Tony bickered (and then totally weighing in). THE SECURITY GUARD! And then at the very end when the invaders are coming and he starts toward them, still Bruce, but already kind of fucking scary.
THE THOR PUNCH. THE LOKI BASHING. "Puny god." HA!
I love when Clint comes back and is all "I did horrible things!" And Natasha is taking care of him because he's her partner and she owes him one and she's actually pretty comforting when she tells him to blame Loki for all of it. And the happy little smirk on Clint's face when he's facing Loki at the end. HA! They played Natasha a little too angsty-tragic, imho, butshe got some great scenes and was extremely kickass. I just wish we'd had a couple more scenes with the two of them being partners in combat.
