I am really unhappy with the optometrist I'm seeing in Richmond. I picked him out of the provider list that they give us at work, based solely on how long the drive was and whether I thought I could find his office without getting lost or needing GPS, so I'll own that I didn't exactly check his references. You also might be able to file a complaint with your insurance company, and they might threaten to not cover him anymore (potential lost business motivates!). Maybe?

Also, that sucks and I'm sorry. Vision not optional!

That just sounds fishy. He should be able to renew your prescription or write you a new one without a second office visit. Even if he doesn't have your prescription on file, if it hasn't changed, he should be able to get it from your records from the last time an OD issued you a prescription for contacts. The only reason I can see for needing another office visit is if you have a new prescription, and he wants to check how it's working for you ... which shouldn't be required unless there's some sort of weird insurance caveat.

Also, his license to practice should be through the VA Board of Optometry, for what that's worth. I'm not sure you have a case against him unless he's actually been medically negligent, but you can poke around on their site and see what rules and regulations govern optometrists in the area.
