Shovel fics are so hit or miss for me. I don't seek them out and rarely read them unless I know the tone of the story. If they're written right they can be fun (I like protective friends who don't just disappear into the woodwork when the Main Character gets a Love Interest). Thank you! Could not agree more. Also, fic where everyone is afraid to so much as annoy Natasha because "she'll kill them." I highly doubt she would hurt her friends just because they annoy her. That will throw me right out of a story.

Yes. This, so much. I don't mind when it's mostly a joke, like "Dude, dude, Natasha kissed me on the cheek IS THAT SOME KIND OF ASSASSIN WARNING SHOT?" or even if they're ruminating on how damned scary she is but in a badass admiring kind of way. But when the fic writes it as the Avengers being literally convinced she's going to hurt/kill them at any moment, I just wonder what movie/comics the author was watching.

Also, why the Avengers would even have her on the team if they really felt that way about it, but whatever, Logic Is Not This Trope's Strong Point.

Totally! I don't mind if it's joking, or if they're all ribbing each other, but when Tony is afraid to say ANYTHING to her about something, or do something, that just makes me want to roll my eyes. I mean, yes, she's a scary assassin, but she's not going to go around stabbing people for no reason.

Logic, it is lacking.
