The fandom questions meme again. Star Trek: TOS this time!

Feb 24, 2010 10:22

ameban  wanted me to do this question meme list for Star Trek, so I have. I'm not really in this fandom anymore, although I was heavily into it from the 70s through the late 80s or so when the TNG vs. TOS infighting got stupid in the geek circles I ran in at the time and made me a disillusioned little fan. Plus, Transformers ate my brain. I watched and ( Read more... )

Who I want to be like...At one time I would have said Spock, but not really anymore. So, I'm gonna go with Sulu. He's...sunny and optimistic and enthusiastic about stuff. I like that.

I'm sensing a pattern here. ;)

Hee hee...Sulu is kinda sorta Wheeljacky, even to the point of scaring the crap out of people with weapons, only Sulu's aren't WMDs. Just swords and knives and "antique" guns and such. I guess I want to be sunny because I haven't been for so dang long. :p You always want what you don't have.

I know the feeling. ...I wonder if the world would implode from Cheerful if Sulu and Wheeljack ever got together.

Very likely, particularly since it would be an overload of cheerful enthusiasm. I shudder to think... On the other hand, it might be fun, too. Were I given to writing crossovers... ;)

It's part of the meme... People that answers the meme, has to make their own version for three different series. But since you already did TF and has any other favorite series (besides this one) well ^_~

I haven't seen the last movie, so I didn't know about Uhura/Spock... but I'm glad you supported her. Now, I TOTALLY agree about Kirk. Even as a child, that playboy wannabe hero got my nerves till the very end. No wonder why you say nobody deserves him.

Oh, I'm sorry! Maybe I should have put spoilers in there. I thought that if I'd seen the movie, then anyone who wanted to see it would have already seen it. I only saw it on DVD a couple of months ago. But...yeah. It's not a major plot point, but there is some definite romancing going on there. And pretty good chemistry between the actors who play Spock and Uhura, IMO.

But yeah, I like Uhura a lot. I always felt she didn't get as much attention as she should, but then, it was a show in the 60s and she was a woman AND black, so it wasn't surprising. So...Yeah, I wrote a lot of fic about her. I was really happy that some of the "official" Trek novels focused in on her quite well.

Now if we could just get rid of Kirk the Jerk.... ;)

Uhura never was popular? Really? I'm well aware of how low used to be female roles back those years, yet I learned Luther King himslef asked the actress that played Uhura's role, to keep doing that because what her character meaned.
At elast you were brave enough to see it.

Don't worry about the subtle spoiler in your post, at least if you speak about myself. I don't mind it because I just don't want to see the movie; for some reasons, when I saw the trailers, I just thought "That's not StarTrek, but Starwars". So it's ok.
It seems you enjoyed it in some twisted personal degree, after all ^_~

"kirk, the Jerk"... those are big words XDXDXDXD

Uhura certainly didn't get as much attention from the fans as Kirk/Spock/McCoy. Or even Scotty. I just don't think that on the show she ever got enough stuff to do to make her really interesting in a fan sort of way. But she was definitely one of those ground-breaking characters for the time. I don't think she was disliked, just kind of there. But I really like her.

And I encourage you to see the new movie, if you get a chance. It sets up an alternate universe in a...well, not really a clever way, but it works well enough. The characters are like their original selves enough to recognize them, but different enough to be...different. :) I really like the new take on Spock. Honestly, I though I'd hate the movie, but I ended up really liking it. So, if you're bored and have nothing better to do... :)
