I'm not entirely sure what would have happened if I hadn't taken off the gasmask I'd worn to school one day about a minute before a principal came storming down the hallway (preceeded by her funky cloud of cheap perfume, since it was Mrs. Norton) walkie-talkie in hand, looking around, probably for me.

Likely, it would have been worse than her attempts to tell me that I couldn't wear the jewelry I did "because someone could choke a student with it."
