I don't really know what to say. We came back from a wonderful week of camping, dancing and singing in the woods with friends and we opened our eyes to the horror of Katrina. I can't believe the carnage and destruction I am looking at. I thought I had seen the lowest levels of humanity during 9-11, but in my mind, this actually beats that. I cannot ( Read more... )

I agree completely. Companies who are ruled by profit should not have any responsibility over the lives of human beings, it's as simple as that. Sure, they have to worry about their image, but at the end of the day the bottom line is all that they care about. Governments run by the sort of people who cater to those who run businesses have even less right to exist. It was disgusting the level of mismanagement, the amount of things that were ignored.

Did you hear that even the DISASTER ESCAPE PLAN was privatised, (how does this happen?) cutting costs so much that there was virtually no way for those without vehicles (like the elderly) to escape the city? Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. What an individualist society we live in, to think that no one even THOUGHT about the possibility of people without cars... It's disgusting.

Yes and the damn Director of Fima is now saying that the victims were somewhat responsible for not leaving. Like yo mention, what about the ones that have no vehicle? Nothing was provided. I have seen how evacuations go at their best. Many people are not informed or know what to do and the people doing it very often have no answers. So people try to stay home, the one place they feel or think they are safe. And now they are considered to blame? Ahhhhh! I wanna slap somebody!
On one hand you have criminals on the streets who are taking this as an opportunity. On the other there are also people on the streets caught in a life or death struggle for survival. And a military presence that can now shoot to kill anybody they see fit. And all that with still a trickle of the relief that should be there.
SOMEBODY has GOT to pay for all this when it is all over with. First lets save some people. Then we need to hang some other people.

He said that, too???? I wrote one of the angriest posts I've ever written in my life last night about that subject but kept it private. Maybe I'll make it public this morning. I heard a bunch of liberals on lj say this initially and was I pissed!!!!!!!

Sorry, but I think all politicians of both parties are horrid. We need to ban pol. contrib. altogether., as the system is GUARANTEED to provide us with corruption no matter who wins.

Anyhow, thanks for your angry post. I'm mad too.

Those levys were only built to withstand Category 3 storms. When asked about the inevitability of a larger storm the answer was, it came down to "cost vs. benefit"...
You can almost hear them sitting around joking about how their own ignorant supporters on the Christian right are blaming this on the "sinful" ways of New Orleans for things like Mardi Gras and the Gay Pride Parade- while those who raped the wetlands around the city with storm worsening canals created for oil transport laugh all the way to the bank.
"Only poor people and stupid people will be left, OUR families'll be able to just hop on a plane to our house in the Hamptons..." Assholes.
On top of it the E.P.A. (W's newest most impotant puppet) has relaxed emissions standards so we can "get back on top". Think Shell-Norco will donate even a fraction of whatever a human life is worth to fix the damage they helped create? Probably not.

Roar is more like it. No I don't think the mega buck boys will do much other then to get some of their money back from the insurance. It is time to start rattling the cage. Talk to people. Piss them off if you have to, but get them to open their eyes and think for themselves. Gather facts. This isn't a Liberal thing. I am going to quite literally beat the fuck out of the next person that dares to call me that to my face. See how bleeding heart liberal that feels. The difference between a liberal and a radical are: A liberal writes checks on paper and a radical writes them with flesh and blood. I don't have enough money to be a liberal. I guess I will take my big mouth to the street and hopefully somebody can raise bail.
