Thoughts on Mirai Nikki 5:

Yep - I knew there would be rape in this eventually. Kind of didn't expect it so soon, though. At least now I know why Sixth is naked in the ED.

I also totally called Sixth being untrustworthy, if only for the reason that I don't think anybody in this show is completely trustworthy . I appreciated the look into her background. It was brief, but very effective in explaining where she was coming from. Also, while we're talking about untrustworthy people, I especially don't trust Fourth now. What insidious things could he be planning with Ninth? (Also, I might be starting to ship them now.)

I liked Twelfth. He was pretty funny, even if I do think the humor was a tiny bit dissonant with the rest of the episode.

I see more and more of myself in Yuki with every episode. He acts the exact way I would were I in his shoes. I find myself really relating to his uncertainly, and whenever I see him finally making a decision, I feel simultaneously really proud of him and absolutely terrified for him. He seems to now have a better understanding of what he needs to do to make it through the survival game, but at what cost? I got a thought into my head that other day that the series might end with Yuki becoming as crazy and ruthless as Yuno. It's not based on anything in particular, but I feel like it could be a possibility. Of course, it's anyone's guess what will happen at this point (unless you've read the manga, that is, in which case I will once again remind my readers to kindly refrain from spoiling me). It could go absolutely anywhere.

Something I found interesting about Yuno in this episode is how physically worn out she got after a while. It confused me at first to see her slowing down and getting flushed like that; for a second I thought she was sick or had been poisoned somehow. When I realized that she was just exhausted, it really occurred to me that, insane as she is, Yuno really isn't just some crazy killing machine. She really is human. When I see a character like Yuno, I tend to think of them as this almost inhuman force of nature, defined almost solely by her insanity and bloodlust. But that isn't the case with Yuno. She's not a murder machine. She can go apeshit on as many poor unfortunate souls as she wants, but she has to stop at some point. Also, it's pretty apparent to me that "kill" is not truly her default setting in every tight spot she gets into as evidenced by the rape attempt. Not only is she overpowered, but she is genuinely terrified. She doesn't try to act tough. She doesn't curse or spit or bite. She knows there is nothing she can do to help herself, and she's just so upset and scared. Yuno cannot overcome everything with her craziness; it doesn't make more or less of a human being.

I think that's part of what really interests me about this show. No matter how weird, suspicious, and/or insane any of the characters are, it's really apparent that they are all human beings that go beyond being defined by a single trait. I find them all fascinating to watch.

While I'm on the subject of Mirai Nikki, I got a friend of mine to watch the first episode with me last night, and she liked it! This very much pleases me.
