So far it is agreed upon by all: Japan is sweet. Save for some minor frustrations involving the lack of street names and incredibly confusing, inadvertant keyboard settings, Japan is sleek, modern, sexy, and totally green. Fwend ahead. Do you know Michiko? She is wonderful, totally genki, and the only person I have ever met with a degree in flower arranging. I have not had her as a professor yet, only for Japanese tutorial to which I shamefully only showed up twice. I have been studying the language only for the past year, starting in the Fall semester and continuing through Spring into this summer course. Our professor was the wiley and (I thought) very entertaining Gus Heldt, who left Bard at the end of the year to pursue a new life at the University of Virginia. I'll continue studying Japanese next semester with Michiko, who I am sure we will both find to be an excellent professor.

I'm glad you can get something out of this journal. So what is your interest in Japanese? Is it part of a broader cultural intrigue, a general interest in languages, or...?
