so I'm listening to the SaGa Frontier OST, and I decided to look up SaGa Frontier out of curiosity. I found a review of the game, and this is what the reviewer said about the music:

The music is probably the only really good thing to this game ( Read more... )

You know, Uematsu did get his own series of concerts, but the music in FFVII sucks. It sucks sucks sucks. FFIII, FFVI, and FFVIII had the best music.

I disagree. Man With A Machine Gun and Liberi Fatali are good, but the boss track from VII, all variations of One Winged Angel rule, and JENOVA- well, my opinion is biased when I say best single villain theme ever. Also, Lonely in My Nightmare (Vincent's theme) is possibly the only MiDi I could listen to for days on end without going insane, including the Mario theme.

Okay, SaGa Frontier is complex, storywise, with about twenty characters recruitable in the multiple character angles. Yeah, some of the quests are a little repetitive, but that's because the game is very story driven. Each character's story contains a different level of difficulty ( ... )

Also, about reviewing: you could always just make yourself a member at GameFAQs or something and start posting. o_O; Unless you wanted to get a job doing it for a 'zine or something. I just review at random, like I did for you now. =p

I take it for granted these days that reviews are mostly worthless. You have a writer who is under pressure to review some games by some deadline, and since it's impossible to play them all to completion, said writer is probably going to cut some corners on at least some of them. I'm reminded of how everyone was raving over Colony Wars but I considered it exceedingly lame.

As for SaGa Frontier, I didn't think it was too bad, but damn that Bio Research thingy. :P

Bio lab was where I did all my levelling up. :D I think my lute game was like at 13 hours, and at least 8 or 9 of them were at the bio lab. DSC, baby. DSC.

Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and III were all SaGa games that were frickin' awesome. They also had the best music on the classic Game Boy.

squarewhore is here because she is my friend, and I saw nikari posting about SaGa Frontier, which I recalled her telling me about years and years ago, and I asked her as a favor to me to come and give him a review, since he said that the only one he'd been able to find was a bad one and since I know she's played a lot of games so she's got more than FF VII to go on.

She uses that username because Square Enix gets a lot of her money (hence she's Square's whore, duh), not because she necessarily prefers them or thinks they are better than others. Don't be rude.

hehe hi :)

Thanks for trying to help me out! I was really making more of an observation than asking for help, though. Everyone has their own opinions about what songs are good and what songs aren't. I think everybody should be entitled to that.

There are a lot more games out there than Final Fantasy, is all. The reviewer held a very unreasonable bias against the game they were trying to review, while saying Final Fantasy was better, instead of giving any details to what kind of music the game had. Your friend, good intentioned tho she may be, holds a very similar bias towards Final Fantasy. (Mind you, her minireview of saga frontier was still better than the one I had read.)

Sorry about all the headbutting. I really didn't intend anything malicious by the post. Hell knows no fury like the wrath of a gamer's opinion.
