My bad week, but now I'm home, yay!
Wednesday- Chest felt full, by the time I went to bed that and my left arm were painful. I took some painkillers and fell asleep.
Thursday - chest and arm were in pain all day. I took pain killers and they didn't help so I tried to go to bed early.
I couldn't breathe when I lay down or get comfortable. I tried a heating pad and that didn't help. Finally I woke Jim up and told him what was going on and after 10 minutes of trying to decide what to do we went to the ER. First, the woman at the desk told us to ring a bell, then after Jim told her I had trouble breathing she took my temp and blood pressure. We were escorted to a dirty room with a curtain for a door. Two nurses quickly changed the sheets, wiped down the room and told me I 'might' have to change into a gown. That's the last we saw of them for an hour. The curtain didn't close all the way and I couldn't lay down because I couldn't breathe when horizontal.
Eventually my uncle(who work in the lab) walked in and asked what was wrong. I told him, then he asked how long we had been waiting. Once he heard that, he left and the doctor came a few minutes later. The nurse came back in, took blood and gave me an IV. Soon I was off for an X-ray, then a cat scan.
I was admitted, obviously. They found three blood clots in my lungs, the worst of which are on my left side. I was given really good pain killers and a blood thinner. (well, on my first full day there, the nurse didn't come when I called and I went for several hours without any pain relief. My family just happened to be there and told me never to go to that hospital again).
The room wasn't bad. It had two doors, so I had a lot of privacy which was great. My uncle came to see me, the pet therapy people came by and I got to pet a Jack Russel.. it was nice. Well, except for the pain medicine issue and when they forgot to feed me. If I wasn't attached to the bed and oxygen I would have gone to the cafeteria.
The next room was terrible. It had a door and a curtain (that didn't close all the way), and did not have a shower. Apparently, there was a shower in the hall, but I was still attached to oxygen. Oxygen that made my nose stuffy.
I had more bad nurses, more missed meals and finally the doc said he'd sign me out, but I'd be on oxygen and injections. It took two days for the nurse to get around to showing me how to do the injections and the doc gave up on releasing me on oxygen, because the respiratory people never came to do their thing. Also, I found out that for oxygen, they're supposed to attach water to it, so you breathe humid air.
So, I got released and went far, far away from that hospital!
Oh! And our cell phones have changed. I had t-mobile, and every month they turned our service off for non-payment a week or two before the bill was due. When I couldn't reach anyone in the hospital because of this I called and complained. I was given many excuses, denied my chance to speak to a supervisor, but my service was restored. The next morning it was turned off again.
I got a new cellphone provider and they're not getting any more of my money.
I'm happy to be alive and glad that I have a daughter and husband, but I'm ready for a happily ever after. Really. Any day now please.
