Idea In Progress: Hide Your Items!

Oct 06, 2010 00:39

So, recently I had an idea. It was supported by a very scientific study, and now I've reached a point where I must move forward with this idea or let it go. And Gods help me, I'm actually going to move forward with it. I'll explain below in the normal sized, normal colored text.

Last year I was in a depression all year. Possibly before last year. I ( Read more... )

Got a couple of parties to go to on the 30th. Want to go to a couple of parties?

As far as I know, there's nothing going on the 16th and 17th. Might have plans this coming weekend, but the next one appears to be totally free. If you let me know a day or two ahead of time, about what time you're going to be around, my weekends are usually pretty flexible. Changeling on the 3rd Saturday and Hunter on the 4th, but other than that nothing set in stone.

One party is the annual Halloween party given by a couple of people I play Changeling with, which I have not gone to before. The other is a birthday party for a stranger who friended me on Facebook because we have a RL friend in common.

I definitely applaud doing what works well for you. I think sugar in general pretty much borks with lots of us in some pretty nasty ways.

There are some very good sugar free products out there these days, especially if you can do Splenda. Blue bunny makes ice cream that has no added sugar, which is also low fat... very tasty stuff.

I would also note from your description that you may also want to look into Seasonal Affective Disorder as a possible trigger. Classic SAD can affect people even if it isn't winter, if they spend lots of time indoors, away from natural light.

I've also considered SAD as a possible cause of some of it. I definitely wouldn't rule it out completely.

Sugar free ice cream...might have to try that. Splenda is decent. I've had the Diet Coke with Splenda, and it tastes exactly like the regular Diet Coke, only the carbonation is slightly less harsh. I liked it, but my regular grocery store doesn't carry it. Have to go to Super Saver.

I definitely have SAD (a diagnosis and everything) and I've found working by a window makes it much, much more manageable.

This is an encouraging entry to read-yay! I've found the same results from similar experiments, and honestly, regular exercise is the best depression-buster I've found. I used to not get much of that, apart from long walks, but it all started with yoga once a week, and then commuting by bike, and eventually I started lifting free weights... nothing too YMCA, but I'm still fitter than I've been at any other point of my life.

I disagree with algor_langeaux; I think it's far healthier to have sugar in reasonable amounts, than any of that fake sugar crap, and sugar is definitely than high-fructose corn syrup (or high-fructose anything). With real sugar, your body is more aware when it's received enough energy intake. If you have low-cal stuff, what ends up happening is you take in about the same number of kilojoules (or 'calories' or whatever the old-fashioned measurement is) but more food, so you actually gain weight ( ... )

Hey, great to hear from you. I'm still in Nebraska, in Lincoln. If you're coming through the area at some point I'd love to see you. Lincoln isn't terribly exciting, but we'd have a lot of catching up to do, so that probably wouldn't matter much.

I don't think I'll be able to make Burning Man next year yet. I've hit a rough spot in the book I've been writing for a very long time now, and until I get through it and actually finish and publish I'm trying not to join in on large-scale activities like Burning Man. Sometime down the road I'm hoping to be able to make it again, and when that happens I'd love to camp with the folks I hung around with in '07. I had a great time, and everyone was really nice.

I'll look for your e-mail, but you can always get ahold of me on LJ, and my Facebook handle is the same as my LJ handle. If you're on that one, look me up when you get a chance. {hugs}
