Even though it was the girl's birthday, Nicole couldn't find much to smile about. Everything was changing for the worst and she was left with no best friend. To make it worse, she had to find out why things were changing that very morning. It all just added up to tears

"There you are," Harry smiled, jogging down the steps to stop on the one just below where Nikki sat. Looking at her face, however, his smile vanished instantly.

"Wait, are you okay?"

"Yes...I'm fine..." she lied, quickly wiping her damn cheek. Nikki didn't want people to think she was being a baby.

"Actually...no. I'm lonely."

"Oh," he answered, chewing the inside of his lip before lowering his weight onto the step beside her.

"Well, I can sit with you, if it would make you less lonely?" he offered, giving her a half-smile and feeling uncertain of what to do. Merlin, he hated it when girls cried.

Nicole nodded lightly, giving him the same half-smile back.

"That would be real nice."
