I was driving by this park that is near the neighborhood I am assigned to for work. It's notorious in Brandon for being an all-black neighborhood. Anywho, I was driving by the park at 4PM and the lot was packed with cars. When I looked over I noticed about 30 black people ALL dancing and joking around. It looked like fun. What about rock concerts, moshing, gamers, Seinfeld, and all the other things that are typically engaged in by whites where we completely goof off? I'd say whites are very silly. But I know from living in mostly non-white neighborhoods and then later living in mostly white neighborhoods (and then back again and so forth), that blacks tend to go outside more than whites for whatever reasons, and tend to have more group gatherings of family and friends, and also include music more than whites. I later 'learned' in a sociology class that "family is more important to African Americans than many other groups." I'm not that comfortable with such sweeping statements about a single group, but sometimes when I reflect on my own family, I do wish they were less inhibited and uptight (on my dad's side at least), and more demonstrative of their emotions. I will acknowledge cultural differences, but in my experience they're much more subtle and difficult to understand/demystify than the world would have us believe.
