They've been trying to incorporate rock stars in movies, like, forever. It's just that the rockstars are amazingly reluctant to take part in it. Vince turned down a role in 1985, saying he didn't have any time for it...

... then again, it was the Prince part in another Cinderella movie, so maybe it just wasn't his cup of tea. :D
