Except for THAT... He already knew that; he just needed to HEAR it. And she says it not just because it's the truth (and Bren is all about truth) but also because she knows that he needs it. Awhs... (And in the next few eps we'll show her that you can't protect the people you love by not loving them. Because it's worth it. They already agreed on that in season 4. So everything happens eventually. *clings to that*)

I really love this, babe, even as it hurts my heart...b/c that's the most frustrating irony of the whole situation, how desperately Bren DOES want to be the woman Booth needs (she IS!!), behind all her assertions that she CAN'T. You gave her a recognition of that dissonance, which while so very sad, is the first step in the right direction.

This is a lovely piece. A very believable extension to the final scene of 5x16.

Heartcrushing, but with a sense of hope. At least she realizes here that she wants to be that person for him.
